Abstract

Buku Dr. Shanti Farrington dan Alison Woodward, The Psychology of Trauma, menjelaskan trauma sebagai pengalaman di luar kendali individu yang berdampak negatif secara fisik, emosional dan psikologis. Buku ini melampaui pemahaman umum dengan menekankan pemahaman trauma melalui pertanyaan “Apa yang terjadi padamu?” untuk mengurangi stigma dan meningkatkan empati. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang menggabungkan neurosains dan pengalaman klinis, buku ini menggambarkan bagaimana trauma memengaruhi fungsi neurologis dan psikologis, serta menyesuaikan terapi sesuai kebutuhan individu dengan mempertimbangkan keragaman budaya dan neurologis. Fokus khusus diberikan pada sindrom trauma kompleks (CPTSD), yang timbul dari trauma masa kanak-kanak yang berulang. Terapi yang berorientasi pada trauma dijelaskan melalui kerangka kerja stabilisasi, penyembuhan, pengingatan dan rekonsiliasi yang berorientasi pada hubungan terapeutik yang aman dan penuh kepercayaan. Buku ini juga membahas mitos dan stigma seputar trauma serta menyoroti pentingnya pendidikan dan pendekatan holistik dalam penyembuhan. Konsep pemulihan trauma dijelaskan sebagai bentuk lain psikologis yang memperkuat individu secara emosional dan mental.
